Ys 7 PSP Plot Summary
Current state: Story covered up to the final dungeon, revised for
naming consistency.
Adol and Dogi near the port of Arthago when Dogi spots some ruins
in the distance and calls Adol to come and look. Adol has always wanted to visit Arthago,
and the chance finally came after the end of the conflict with the Romun Empire, with a little thanks to Laddock.
Drawing into the harbour, they encounter one of the ships of the Dragon
Knights, who managed to successfully repel the Romun
forces despite their significantly inferior numbers.
They pull into the harbour, and part ways
with the ship's captain, who begins unloading his cargo. Arthago
is most well known as a trading port, and the city is home to many wealthy
merchants who live a life of luxury. Upon entering the city itself, the duo run
into a mute girl called Maya, who tries to sell them a flower. After you
accept, she looks thoughtfully at Adol and then gives
him another for free, the same colour as his hair, then runs off.
By the fountain they later bump into Tia,
who notices the flower, and tells them she's sure Maya is happy. Maya and Tia
come from the 'old town', which is a slum in all but name, where the people
live in complete poverty and are seen as cheap labour at best by the people of
the main city. Having spoken to everyone, Adol
returns to the fountain only to find three armed men threatening Tia, ordering
her to come with them if she wants to be able to continue selling herbs in the
city. Maya tries to intervene, but is completely powerless, leaving it to Adol and Dogi to charge in and
try to save the day. The leader of the soldiers, one of the Dragon Knight
chiefs, decides to falsely accuse Adol of being a Romun spy instead, and he and Dogi
are hauled off to jail.
Down in the prison area he laughs at Adol's 'useless Europe sword' (weapons in Arthago contain a force they call ‘Dragon Energy’, which
allows the user to use skills, meaning that the people look down on other
weapons that don’t), telling him that just being found holding a weapon is
probably enough to give something of a case against him. He’s interrupted by Scyas, who comes with orders from Arthago's
ruler, Duke Kymar, requesting 'the famous Adol the Red' come and talk with him - two of the soldiers
run off in terror, while Raud, the leader,
resentfully agrees to leave, looking scornfully down on Scyas
because of his humble birth in the old town.
In the audience chamber, Kymar
reveals himself to be an old friend of Laddock, and,
guessing Adol is here for an adventure, agrees to let
him explore the rest of the country (current law states that foreigners may not
leave the city) in exchange for a favour. As a result of a recent earthquake a
small shrine has been unearthed, and while the Dragon Knights could find
nothing out of the ordinary, Kymar requests a second
opinion from Adol'. He agrees, of course, and off
they go, after a bit of training at the arena courtesy of Scyas.
Entering the shrine itself, a stone tablet
suddenly begins to shine and talk to Adol, warning of
the possibility of Arthago's impending destruction.
Going to leave, a huge monster emerges and attacks the party. With only a
little of its life remaining the monster goes on the defensive, leaving them no
way to defeat it - until the tablet speaks once again, releasing the Moon Symbol
and granting Adol the power to use an Extra Skill.
After using this to defeat the monster, Adol
collapses, and just as Dogi goes to move him Tia
appears, telling Dogi not to try to move him and
leave it to her.
Later, Adol awakes
in Tia's home to Maya incessantly poking him. Tia tries to make him rest a
little longer, but Adol and Dogi
are eager to be on their way, and head back to the palace in Arthago to report to Kymar.
Outside the throne room, they bump into two men - one large and relatively
curt, the other looking slightly scheming. The latter sends the burly man to
complete a task which he deems in Arthago's best
interests, but which may need soldiers to be mobilised. He then leaves,
uninterested in Adol. The burly man tells Adol and Dogi to not wander
around so freely and to not stick their necks into things that don’t concern
them. He then also leaves, after which Scyas appears
and introduces them - the burly man is Draizen, head
of the Dragon Knights, and the other man is the Arthago
prime minister Olbas. He then takes them in to see Kymar, guessing from their expressions that they found
something the Dragon Knights did not.
Kymar seems surprised, and concludes that what happened may have been
because of the power of the dragon, shocking everyone in the room. He seems
unsure, but tells Adol that if he wants to know more,
he should visit Fatima, chief of Shannoa village, and
hands him a letter of recommendation. After this he begins coughing, and Scyas quickly rushes to attend to him. Kymar
stops coughing, but reminds him that it's ‘not an illness that he can fully
recover from anyway', reassuring Adol and Dogi that what he has is not contagious. They set off for Shannoa.
On the way there they bump into a green
haired kid called Elk, who demands to know what business they have in the area.
Adol tells him. He seems amazed and demands to see
the letter from the Duke - which they show him, and he promptly runs off with.
They run after him, and find him cornered by a monster. Dogi
orders Elk to step back and let them deal with it, which he does. Afterwards he
insists he could've beaten it himself, but nevertheless gives them the letter
back and runs back to the village before his grandmother, the village chief,
finds out he left without permission.
They finally reach the village and speak to
the village chief, who tells them of the five dragons of Arthago,
one of which is said to have resided in Shannoa. She
tells them the location of the earth dragon’s shrine, in the centre of the
hollowed out Great Tree, and asks them not to be too harsh on Elk, as he's got
his own problems.
They leave the chief's home, only for Elk to
reappear and offer to show them the way, warning them of monsters infesting the
area. Upon finding the stone shoes used to avoid damage from spiked floors, Elk
begins to tell them that he heard a story about them from his father before
falling silent. Although Dogi asks what's wrong, he
brushes the question off and hurries them along. Eventually they reach the
centre where they encounter a gigantic chrysalis. Seeing what's inside, Elk
begins to rage and charges towards the monster, furious that the monster that
killed his parents is so close to the village. After catching up with him, they
manage to defeat it, and Elk tells them how a group of villagers had once been
attacked by the monster and his parents had given their lives to allow the
others to escape. Since then the village has been much more cautious of
monsters, and Elk has grown to despise them intensely, even though he knows it
will not do anyone any good.
They return to the village, and all the more
sure the dragons are at work here the village elder tells them to visit the
fire dragon’s shrine in Segram after yelling at Elk,
who accidentally reveals he went with them. Unfortunately she doesn't know the
specifics on where it is, so suggests they ask Draizen,
head of the Dragon Knights, who used to be the chieftain of Segram.
Elk tries to go with them, but Fatima refuses point blank, leaving him to just
see them off, determined to prove himself to her later. Dogi
doesn't seem too optimistic that Draizen will help
them at all, but nevertheless they decide to try the lead anyway.
On the way back, they bump into Tia, who is
about to be attacked by a crowd of monsters. After the battle, she tells them
that she usually uses a special aroma to drive monsters in the area away so
that she can collect herbs, but it apparently didn't work that day. She agrees
to go home early, and being the gentlemen that he is, Adol
offers to escort her back. She offers to make them tea back at her house, but
they refuse the offer as they have business to attend to, and head towards the
palace. Trying to enter the throne room they overhear a conversation between Kymar and the prime minister, the latter insisting that
trade is of the utmost importance to Arthago and
suggesting that they cut the supply of aid to the old town and other villages,
a proposal that doesn't sit well with Kymar at all.
They head into one of the side buildings of
the palace, only to meet Scyas again, who tells them
that Draizen has just returned from training and is
not entirely unreasonable - he'll at least listen to their story. He does, in
fact, and gives them a letter of recommendation to the new village chief of Segram, saying that only the chief can open the shrine,
which lies across the desert.
Upon leaving the town they run into the girl
they met earlier, who reveals herself to be called Aisha. She insists on going
with them 'because she has business there too', mumbling about getting away
from Sigrune. After trying to dissuade her for a
while, Adol and Dogi resign
themselves to taking her along, and they head off.
On the way, you see a scene with Geis in front of one of the stone tablets. He says that
it’s just as he’d been told, and Jue suggests he
takes the power from the tablet. He tells her that there’s none left – it’s
been taken already, someone got there first. Wondering who, he can’t help but
wonder if it’s ‘him’.
When they finally reach the chief's home in Segram, they find he’s not in the moment, and they are
instead welcomed by his sister, who reveals that Draizen
is in fact her father. She doesn't see him very much anymore, though. After
showing her the letter, she says that her brother will likely return soon, and
then collapses and begins coughing. Aisha quickly recognises this as Iska Fever, and rushes to treat her, demanding Dogi get her medicine and Adol
carry her upstairs.
After she finally awakes, the village chief,
Mustafa, arrives, leaving Adol and Dogi in the rather unfortunate situation of standing over
his sister in bed. He immediately assumes the worst and charges at them with a
gigantic hammer despite her shouting that he's got the wrong idea.
...Eventually he listens, and they explain
their circumstances. He immediately refuses to allow them into the shrine, and
when reminded that they have Draizen's letter, he
replies that he won't let them in ESPECIALLY because that. He seems to get on
incredibly badly with his brother. After begging from his sister, Mustafa
finally agrees to let them go with him, as he intended to check up on the
shrine anyway, which has recently become infested with monsters and lava.
After the boss, Mustafa tells them that what
they fought is the guardian of the altar, and tells them about all the unusual
things happening in Segram lately - unseasonal desert
winds, attacks by monsters like the sandeater
outside, but goes silent after beginning to say that there is a problem far
worse than all of these, telling them he has no obligation to share it. They go
in, and after feeling another presence from the altar it begins speaking,
telling them the same as the others - that Adol has
what it takes to save Arthago, which is on the path
to destruction - and blesses him with the Fire Symbol. After teleporting back
to Segram, Mustafa realises that Adol
has really obtained the dragon's power, and asks to hear more.
They return to his home, and while he goes
to check on Crusche, Aisha tells them that the Iska Fever is uncurable -
medicine to slow its progress exists, but there is no cure, and even the
medicine to slow its development is expensive and difficult to obtain,
especially with the number of cases increasing rapidly lately. Mustafa returns,
and tells them that while the dragons usually sleep, they exist in spirit
across the land, and while he is not himself deeply familiar with the legends,
it could not hurt to visit the next of the five tribes. Unfortunately two of
the tribes have vanished over the course of history, but the village of Kyros still remains.
Meanwhile, Geis
charges out of the palace, cursing that the security was far stronger than he
expected, and a certain man for noticing him even with his amulet protection.
One of the homunculi appears and tells him to hurry away, leaving Geis to curse the bastard who forced this job onto him in
the first place.
Unfortunately, the mountain path to Kyros is blocked off by the Dragon Knights, who've sealed
the area because of a burglar in the palace - apparently there's been a number
of suspicious things lately, and the guards think they could be connected.
Unfortunately Adol is left with no choice but to
return to Arthago.
Upon entering the city, they're greeted by a
small group of knights, who ask if they've seen a man in black. Aisha seems
furious, mumbling that she wanted to do some more investigating before
returning to her father, but quickly tells them it's none of their business
when asked.
After looking around for a while, they bump
into Tia and Maya by the fountain. Tia seems downhearted, as business is far
from booming, but hopes it's just because of the chaos in town after the
burglary. They tell her about the trip to Segram,
while Aisha moans about being dragged around with a bunch of sweaty men.
Noticing Maya, she suddenly jumps back asking if Maya's going to start pulling
on her again, but Maya doesn't seem too well... and then collapses.
Back in the old town, Aisha tells them that
Maya has the Iska Fever, and a pretty horrible case
of it. A doctor enters, having heard about Maya's case, but tells them that to
make the medicine to slow its progress they would need a Scarlet Crystal, which
are extremely valuable. Nevertheless, the party persist, and the doctor tells
them that the Zanzibar Company store in the town square may have some.
The party visit the store, noting the insane
prices they sell everything for. Talking to the owner, he tells them that a lot
of people have wanted the crystal lately, and asks how much they're willing to
pay, as it costs about as much as a whole family home. Dogi
begs him to sell it cheaper, as it's for Maya, and Zanzibar laughs telling the
beggars to go home. Dogi gets incredibly angry and is
about to beat the crap out of him before Adol and
Aisha manage to hold him back. Aisha tells them that Zanzibar was never going
to sell it honestly - he just squeezes as much as possible out of those in
need.
They head back to the doctor, who tells them
that it used to be just about buyable, and Zanzibar's definitely trying to get
as much as possible out of them. The doctor tells them that in recent years Iska Fever has been spreading rapidly, and even Kymar has it. He tells them that if there's one place that
might still have some of the crystal left, it's the underground waterway, and
Tia immediately gets up telling them she has to go out. Guessing she's headed
right there, they follow, only to find her and Raud
arguing, as he wants to know what she wants down there. Aisha calls him over
and whispers in his ear something about her father, and after looking at her
face for a while, he quickly orders everyone including the guard to withdraw.
Tia insists on going down there anyway, and Adol and
the others agree to accompany her. Unfortunately for you this means an escort
dungeon, so take care and use party healing items (second row first two items
under 'use' in the item menu - remember you can only hold one of each, so don't
waste them).
After defeating the giant enemy crab, Tia
re-enters the room and you find the crystal on the far side of the room. Taking
enough for Maya, they head back to town. Tia heads on ahead while the party
calls the guard back, then they head on to join her, only to find Scyas, who seems surprised to see Aisha. He then tells them
he used to know Tia and Maya well when he still lived in the old town, and that
Maya lost her relatives in the war against the Romun
Empire, and was taken in by Tia when she drifted ashore. He calls them outside
for a moment, and thanks them for curing Maya. Dogi
tells him that they were just tagging along with Adol,
and they had to return because of the blockade on Kyros.
Scyas asks them to give Tia and Maya some time, as
because of her age Maya is not likely to last long, and Tia likely already
knows this. He then addresses Aisha as the princess, and asks her to return
home, but she refuses, telling him that her father is incredibly worried about
all the unusual things happening in Arthago and she
wants to see them herself and report back to him. He agrees to pretend he
didn't see her, and says he'll take care of the blockade, then leaves.
On the way through Kyros
valley they run into none other than Geis, who
figured you were coming, and who calls Adol 'The
Dragons' chosen one'. He challenges Adol to a one on
one duel (note that you don't get a healing point or any warning to save
beforehand), and if you win says he should've expected as much from the one who
defeated his brother Ernst. Dogi asks if he's the one
who infiltrated the mansion, and Geis offhandedly
admits it, noticing the dragon power and guessing you're headed to the altar in
Kyros. He tells you to head to the village's highest
point to meet a certain girl, then leaves.
Upon reaching said point, you meet the tribal
chieftain, Myshera, who tells them that she foretold
their coming using the power of the wind, and revealing that she is in fact
blind. She tells them that her power does not extend to things outside of Arthago, and asks about Adol's
experiences with the dragons. She then tells them the location of the shrine,
and insists on coming with them, as she knows the way well.
After defeating the boss, Myshera tells them that the bird has been tainted by miasma
and driven insane, and was drawn to the holy power in the altar. She purifies
it, and they head into the shrine. After receiving the same warning from the
wind dragon, who tells them to visit the final dragon, she asks them to come
back to her home, as she has something to say to them about what's been
happening.
She suggests that the problem, although it
has intensified recently, may have begun 200 or so years ago. She repeats the
story of the five tribes and five dragons, and that two of the tribes have
vanished into history. Therefore the cause of everything may have been the
vanishing of the two tribes and gradual loss of faith over the years. Upon
hearing the name of the two remaining tribes – Iska and
Edona, Dogi jumps at the
name Iska, reminded of the Iska
Fever. Although he gets the feeling there's nothing they can do, Myshera tells Adol that if he has
heard the words of four of the dragons, he may as well hear the fifth. Although
the tribe itself has vanished into history, the people of the sea tribe on - in
the form of the citizens of Arthago, with Kymar as their leader. Aisha realises that the surname of
the royal family - Edonas, bears quite a resemblance
to Edona, the name of the water tribe. They agree to
return to the palace and see if Kymar knows anything.
Unfortunately, it seems the king is now
bedridden, as his condition took a turn for the worse. The guard outside his
room tells them that this is apparently due to all the policy arguments he's
been having with the prime minister, and tries to refuse them access. Nonetheless,
Kymar calls from the room to allow them entry. He
apologises for everything they've been through, saying that the Iska Fever is a problem he has a duty to attend to, and
that he bears responsibility for the trouble you had to go through to get the
medicine for Maya as he knows the medicine is being monopolised by greedy
merchants and yet has not done anything about it. Aisha reappears, and after
being asked where she went, as Sigrune has been
worried about her, tries to pretend she has never met Adol
and Dogi, and was just investigating something.
And fails spectacularly.
He pieced together reports he's received and
knows everything already. He then begins to tell them about the history of the
people of Arthago. As Myshera
had told them, they once fulfilled their role in the name of the water dragon,
but were changed by the arrival of trading peoples from the east. After this
meeting they began to seek more wealth in the worship of the sea god Glateos, and abandoned their former home on Ruins Island to
create Arthago city. In the end, they established the
current Dukedom and effectively ruled over the other tribes. The story of the
dragons is still passed down amongst the tribal chieftains, but those who know
are extremely scarce, and he himself is half doubting of whether the dragons
really exist. Nevertheless he tells them the altar is found on Ruins Island,
and orders a guard to prepare a boat for you to travel there. He allows Aisha
to go with you on the conditions that she listens to you and returns to the
palace afterwards, and appoints her as his representative. He then sends you
off, telling you to give her a good telling off if she gets herself into any
trouble, which Dogi is more than happy to do. After
telling him he's the one more likely to get into trouble, she drags Dogi off angrily, leaving you with the King, who remarks
that even without his careful eye she seems to have grown well, and that her
late mother would have been so happy to see her now. He gives you a ring passed
down in the family, hoping it may come in handy on the island.
Outside, Aisha tells you that ships were
forbidden from going to the island, as compasses go wild nearby. Reaching the
pathetically small boat, Dogi offers to row and they
quickly set sail to escape the cries of Sigrune, who
turns out to be Aisha's bodyguard. Aisha laments that this might be her last
journey with them, but Dogi tells her to concentrate
on the journey ahead.
Kymar is wondering if he was too preoccupied with the war with Romun instead of the problems in his own country like the Iska Fever, when someone knocks and is told to enter. Geis shouts down from the rocks after Adol
notices the teleportation ability isn't working, telling them he's been waiting
to help, or rather, to see whether Adol really is the
Dragons' chosen one. He tells them that depending on how they fare on the
island, someone may want to meet them, and he'll be the one to guide them
there, as he owes something of a debt to said person. Aisha doesn't trust Geis at all, and asks if he wants to take her father's
life. Geis admits he had business with Kymar - to pass a message onto him as the leader of the sea
tribe - but was stopped by Scyas and didn't intend to
kill him at all. Adol agrees to take Geis with them.
Further on, they find a blue symbol on the
wall, which Aisha recalls seeing on their family emblem. Adol
takes out the ring Kymar gave him, and the door
opens. Inside they find a talisman of the sea god Glateos
- it appears the people of old left it there as a sign they were abandoning the
sea dragon in favour of their new religion. After Geis
reveals that he too knows how long the island has been abandoned for, the party
finally reach the altar. The final tablet tells Adol
that they have recognised him as the chosen warrior, and confer upon him the
final symbol, warning that the end has already begun the winds of destruction
will begin to blow. Geis mumbles that it's just as he
heard, and tells Adol that the dragons have entrusted
him with Arthago's fate. He refuses to say anymore,
and tells them to return to the city where he will introduce them to the one Adol must meet.
Near the ship they encounter a gigantic
metal soldier, and just before being forced to battle two at once are saved by
the intervention of a Dragon Knight ship with Sigrune
on board, along with Scyas, Raud
and Draizen. They order Aisha to step away from the
party, who are then arrested... under suspicion of the murder of Duke Kymar. While Adol is tortured, Aisha
refuses to believe that Adol would do such a thing,
especially because she had been with him the whole time, giving him no
opportunity to do it. - except, as is pointed out, the time when Adol received the ring and was left alone with the Duke.
Tia refuses to believe it as well, hoping only that Adol
manages to stay safe, as there is not much time left. Meanwhile, Aisha is
forced to give her permission to have Adol executed in
the form of a battle with a giant beast. Nonetheless, she begs him to survive
through it, as doing so will allow them more time to find the true culprit.
Dogi bangs on the bars, while Geis smiles and
reminds Dogi of what he said to Adol
back on the island - nothing good can come of a man like Adol
becoming close to a person of any influence. Dogi
seems ready to bust his way out, but Geis tells him
to stop - he knows damn well Dogi could do it, but
they'd just be heard and surrounded immediately anyway. Geis
tells Dogi that while Adol
will probably find a way, he does owe him one. Then Kisa
appears, and goes off to hunt for their equipment and the key.
In the arena, Raud
seems happy to see Adol killed, but Scyas tells him to at least show some basic courtesy to one
about to go to their death. Raud leaves, and Scyas gives Adol a basic sword
and shield. He says that isn't going to ask Adol if
he really killed the Duke, but if he dies here that's what the truth is going
to be.
Defeating the beast, the prime minister
yells out to capture Adol or kill him if need be,
despite Aisha's arguments. An earthquake strikes, then Dogi
smashes through the drawbridge, Geis throws a smokebomb, and reunited with Adol
they flee the colosseum. They escape, and encounter
guards at the entrance of the city. Tia calls the party over, and shows them a
secret passage out of the old town. Unfortunately Scyas
shows up at this point, but agrees to pretend he didn't see anything. He asks
her if she's really alright - and she replies that she is; she has no more
hesitations.
They head towards the lake, where the cliff
overlooking the sea turns out to be a warp point, leading them to a completely
different place. Dogi is confused, as none of this
was in front of them before... when a man's voice tells them that they are on a
separate plane. Geis says he reluctantly brought the
warrior the man asked for, not like it'll pay off his debt to the man. The man
shrugs this off, telling Geis that it's not like he
forced him, and a pupil normally follows his teacher's requests. Geis scowls. The man introduces himself as Shariars, Geis' teacher and chief
representative of the Iska tribe, and welcomes them
to their hidden village.
He tells them that the people of Iska used to live in the area around Arthago
city, but were driven away when the people of Edona
migrated there from ruins island, and fled to this hidden village using the
power of the moon. Shariars tells Adol
he has a favour for him as the one who has heard the five dragons' voices - the
Dragon Warrior spoken of in the Isuka legends that is
said to be able to stop the winds of destruction. Exactly what the winds are is
not spoken of in the legends, but once they begin to blow they will destroy the
world's harmony and send it into nothingness. Shariars
theorises that the Iska fever is a result of the
body's internal harmony being corrupted. He thinks this corruption will
eventually peak, giving rise to the winds, and blames
everything on the people of Edona's betrayal leading the dragons to vanish. Adol, as the Dragon Warrior, is said to be able to awaken
the dragons and stop the winds. He also thinks that the Duke's assassination is
connected to this, pointing out what such a thing is likely to lead to when
harmony has already been broken - rapid acceleration of the corruption.
He asks Adol to
help them, not as a man given a mission but as an adventurer, which he agrees
to. Dogi figured that after being asked that way Adol wouldn't refuse, and Geis
tells them that Shariars has always been cunning like
that, even when he first crossed to Arthago in search
of techniques to defeat his brother. Shariars tells
them that they need to go around and awaken the dragons, as their resting place
can only be accessed by the Dragon Warrior. Dogi
suggests they might need to speak to the chieftains of the villages first, as
they might be fooled into think they're criminals, but the Elk, Mustafa and Myshera appear saying that won't be necessary. Shariars tells them he sent Geis'
homunculi to call for the leaders of the tribes to assemble... though unfortunately
due to the assassination they will have to proceed without the Duke. Myshera tells them that according to the legends the
cooperation of one related to the original tribal chieftain by blood is needed.
Geis goes to try and get out of coming with them, but
using looking at old Iska books as an excuse Shariars leaves him no choice but to go along.
Incidentally, if you go into the shop you'll
find that item synthesis was originally developed by the Iska
tribe. The workshop chief also tells them about Spiritual Medicine, which can
raise a person's abilities but requires rare ingredients, so he's never
actually had a chance to make it.
Outside the town, Geis
gives you the Moonsong Bell, which allows you to
enter the village, telling you there are other hidden locations around Arthago. It seems that as a result of the earthquake you
can no longer teleport to places you’ve been to before – the teleportation
power is not broke, but you will have to revisit those places again. Meanwhile,
the prime minister is informed that the party has escaped, and Aisha tells Sigrune she has something to tell her.
At Shannoa, Elk's
grandmother tells them that the entrance to the dragon's resting place is at
the Great Tree's altar, and teaches him the spell chant to gain access, albeit
reluctantly. On the way to the tower Sigrune appears,
and demands to know what you’re up to, as she expected Adol
to have fled abroad already. He explains everything, and Sigrune
reveals she promised Aisha to accompany you and help you... or, as she'd rather
think of it, watch you to make sure you don't do anything suspicious. At the
altar it seems the dragon is slowly beginning to awaken, but to complete this
they have to journey to the depths of the resting place. Elk uses the spell
chant, and they enter.
Reaching the dragon, he challenges the party
to a trial to prove their worthiness, and when they win entrusts Adol with the Hidden Earth Stone which contains his power
and gives Elk his divine protection, granting him a new Extra skill, then
wishes them well.
Meanwhile, at the palace the prime minister
reassures Zanzibar that if he demolishes the old town within a few days, him
and his merchants can use it however they like. Aisha charges in demanding to
know what he thinks he's doing, as he can’t just demolish the old town for a
new business district. He tells her that she has no right to object - she is
not in charge of running the country, and now the Duke has died power rests in
him alone. In the old town's church, Tia is nursing the Iska
Fever sufferers, who seem to have increased even more of late.
Returning to the town, Mustafa tells them he
knows nothing of the dragon's resting place, as the job of tribal chieftain was
suddenly forced upon him. Just as he's about to go and see if any record was
left of its location, an old lady rushes over to tell him Crusche's
condition has become suddenly worse and the medicine is no longer effective. She
tells him that the fire dragon spoke to her in a dream and tells him the spell
to gain entry into the resting place. On the way to the shrine try and kill the
worm if you haven't already, as it will strengthen Dogi's
extra skill.
After overcoming the second dragon's trial,
it presents you with the Hidden Stone of Fire, warning you that there is little
time. Outside, Adol agrees to pass by Segram to visit Crusche again,
but when they arrive she seems on the verge of death. The stone begins to glow,
and Myshera guesses that because she is part of the
original chieftain's bloodline it may be able to save her life - though Geis warns it is possible the stone could only be used
once. Nonetheless, Adol agrees to let Mustafa use it,
and he does. While the stone does not entirely cure her, it means that her
symptoms vanish when she is near it. Therefore she decides to go along with you
in her brother's place, and he is forced to reluctantly agree.
In the old town, Raud
goes to tell Tia that it's been officially decided the town will be demolished,
and that everyone should pack their bags and get out today, Nonetheless, he
says that he wouldn’t mind leaving just her house behind. She refuses, mumbling
that Arthago has chosen prosperity over everything
after all, and says that she no longer needs her house anymore anyway. Aisha
arrives to demand he abandons the plan, but Raud tells
her that the royal family is as good as gone now her father is dead. He then
loses interest and leaves. Aisha apologises to Tia for being powerless, but Tia
tells her it's okay.
Upon arrival in Kyros,
you find a group of Dragon Knights intimidating a villager, and step in to
intervene. While the party wonder what to do with the unconscious bodies, Myshera decides to alter their memories so that they return
to Arthago reporting that they found no one
suspicious.
After receiving the Hidden Wind Stone from the
third dragon, it tells them that they, the dragons, will only watch over the
world as it comes to its end. After this, they leave. Unfortunately they have descendents
of neither the moon nor sea tribes with them, so decide to return to Shariars. At the same time, a black cloaked figure reports
to a white cloaked figure that Adol has awoken three
of the dragons. The white cloaked figure says preparations for the ceremony are
ready, and the time for the winds is here.
Back with Shariars,
he tells them that the bloodline of the moon tribe's chieftain ended 200 years
ago - even amongst the five tribes, the head of the Iska
tribe was in charge of regulating harmony amongst them all, and the chief was
probably killed by the sea tribe who resented this. They seem to be left with
no choice but to return to ruins island, when the homunculi appear and tell
them that Arthago was been covered in an ominous
mist, and they felt the presence of assembling monsters. The party decide they
cannot ignore this even with the risk of getting caught, and head to Arthago.
Inside, they find the town heavily damaged
and enveloped in a purple mist. They split up, and Adol
and Dogi head to look for Tia and Maya. After saving
Maya from monsters, the priest tells them that Tia headed for the town earlier.
They head towards the palace when Geis appears and
tells them gigantic monsters started appearing from the sea and sank many
ships, though he managed to deal with it. Jue then races
towards them and tells them someone appeared near the palace and is slaughtering
the Dragon Knights.
Inside the palace, they find Raud over the body of the prime minister, his father,
cursing the one who killed him. He guesses you're with whoever it was, but
denying it, Sigrune calls you over and tells you to take
care of Aisha, who's inside, and that the one who attacked the palace is none
other than Scyas, who turns out to be the black
cloaked figure.
Inside the room, Draizen
defends Aisha, but Scyas approaches telling him that
although he's pretty much completed his objective by killing the prime
minister, but it would be even better if he could take Aisha's life too. He
says that joining the knights was just something that happened along the line,
and he never had any loyalty to the dukedom in the first place, much less to
the royal family of the sea tribe that drove away the people of Isuka. Draizen asks if he was the
one who killed the Duke, and Scyas replies that Adol was incredibly useful - he was sure to have been
doubted, but he managed to get rid of that entirely by fixing everything on Adol instead. He strikes down Draizen,
who notices that Scyas has the same power Adol has, perhaps even more.
Adol and the others charge in, and Scyas
reveals that he knows everything about them, even that Adol
has three of the stones. After losing the battle, Scyas
tells them that they can't possibly stop the winds, even the dragons won’t, and
that it was how things were meant to be from the start. Scyas
is about to finish them all off, but the white hooded figure appears and tells
him to leave them be, as having a glimmer of hope makes the eventual despair
even stronger. Aisha demands the white cloaked figure takes her hood off, and
she agrees to do so... revealing herself as the true successor of the Iska tribe, Tiaruna Rem Iskaria... or just Tia. Tia replies
that she is the one to fulfill the order of Arthago, the one to cleanse the tainted world that caused
the winds of destruction to blow, to return it to its true form. She tells Adol to leave Arthago, as he is
unconnected to its fate, and if he remains will be drawn into the winds. If he
still wishes to stop the winds, he has no choice but to gather all five stones.
After she leaves, reinforcements from the
surrounding villages arrive, and the group discusses what to do next. Geis yells at Adol and Dogi for looking so out of it, and says that if they don't
intend to do anything, he'll deal with the dragons, as that seems to be have
been Shariars original plan, and Adol
can just leave. Of course, Adol says he wants to see
things through to the end, and everyone else agrees to support him. Which
leaves two dragons - the moon dragon is still out, as they have no way to reach
it, but Aisha can help them reach the sea dragon. She also tells them that
although Sigrune and Draizen
were gravely wounded, their injuries were not fatal. She insists on going with
them, and although she is concerned about Arthago in
her absence, Mustafa, Shariars and Fatima will take
care of things.
They take the small boat back to ruins
island, and Adol discovers that because of the stone
teleportation magic can be used this time. In the dragon's resting place the
sea dragon tells them that the end is necessary, and the world longs for it - a
world that has lost its harmony must be destroyed and returned to nothingness.
This is the Ritual of the End that Tia spoke of. After the battle he gives them
the water stone, telling them that together they form the power to stop the
end. After this he teleports them back outside, while they ponder the contradiction
in what he's saying - the end is inevitable and necessary, yet they have the
power to stop it?
Back in Arthago, Raud curses Scyas and Tia for
what they've done. Maya slowly walks past, then collapses. He runs over to her,
and takes her to where the other Iska Fever sufferers
are gathered. Returning to the palace, Fatima tells them that Shariars returned to the hidden village as something
happened there, and the homunculi arrive to tell Geis
that the pillar in the centre of the village started glowing. They run there,
and Shariars tells them that the pillar is likely the
entrance to the final dragon's resting place, but they have no way to access
it.
Returning with Tia's hairpiece, wondering
why it was left so obviously, they manage to unlock the entrance to the resting
place, and are met by the moon dragon, who can tell they are uncertain and
informs Adol that telling the Dragon Warrior the truth
is the moon dragon's role. He tells Adol that, as he can
likely tell already, Arthago is destined for
destruction, and once he knows everything there will be no going back. He then
asks if Adol wants to undertake his trial and know
everything. After a little push by Aisha, Adol nods
his head and the trial begins.
Afterwards, the dragon tells them that the
world is destined to, and must, end, as this is the way Arthago
has been since long ago. After harmony is lost, everything must return to
nothing, and then will be recreated anew. The calling of the winds on a world
that has lost harmony is the final duty of the head of the Isuka
tribe. The Dragon Warrior acts as a representive of Arthago's hope, and when he is inevitably defeated, the
world will meet its end, as has happened many times before in the past.
After explaining everything to Shariars, Myshera suggests the destruction
of Arthago is seen as a way of making sure the whole
world is not destroyed - when harmony is lost in Arthago,
its own people cause its destruction, limiting the effect. Aisha guesses that
the duty of the Dragon Warrior is something like the Arthago
city colosseum - instead of just being destroyed
one-sidedly, current life in Arthago is given a
chance as a mere formality, and this in itself is the Ritual of the End.
Nevertheless, just like Adol won at the colosseum, with the power of the dragons there is a slim
chance he can win here, and intends to fight, even if it can be argued that
destruction is for Arthago's own good. Everyone else
agrees to go with him, and Shariars accepts Geis' offer that if he wins he can be set free and will
have repaid his debt. Shariars tells them he knows
where Tia will have gone, and then the ground starts rumbling. It can't be an
earthquake, as Arthago is on a separate plane. Shariars then tells them that the Well of Souls, where the
ceremony is carried out, is opening. The well is where life flows from at rebirth,
and to where souls return after death. The purple lights flowing into it are
the souls of those who have already perished in the incidents up until now. Adol looks at everyone, nods, and they begin their journey
into the Well.
